About Insan Counsel

A Practice Founded on Careful Attention to Family Matters

We established Insan Counsel with a single purpose: to provide Malaysian families with the kind of considered legal counsel that estate matters deserve — patient, clear, and always mindful of the family's broader circumstances.

Our Story

Insan Counsel was founded in Kuala Lumpur by a group of Malaysian legal practitioners who had each observed the same recurring problem: families arriving at moments of transition — a bereavement, an aging parent's fading health, a business passing between generations — without the legal preparation their circumstances required.

The name Insan — the Arabic word for person or human being — reflects a deliberate orientation. Our work begins with the individual family and the specific record of their assets, relationships, and intentions. It does not begin with procedure.

We operate from a single Kuala Lumpur office at Menara Mara. This is intentional. We are not a large-volume practice with dozens of concurrent files and rotating junior staff. We are a focused team who know each client's matter well and give it the time it needs.

Our Mission

To serve Malaysian families with careful legal counsel on inheritance and estate matters — handling each case with discretion, patience, and a thorough understanding of both civil and Faraid frameworks.

Our Values

  • Discretion in every engagement
  • Clarity over complexity
  • Respect for the family's pace
  • Honest assessment, not false comfort
  • Documentation that endures

Solicitor-Client Privilege

We respond to all written enquiries within one business day. For active matters, clients receive regular written updates and are never left waiting without explanation.

Continuing Professional Development

Each member of our team participates in ongoing legal education, including Bar Council seminars on estate law, Faraid practice updates, and trust and succession developments.

Inheritance Legal Practice in Malaysia

The administration of estates in Malaysia involves a layered legal landscape. Depending on the religious identity of the deceased, the nature of the assets, and the relationships between family members, an estate may be governed primarily by civil statutes, by Faraid principles, or by a combination of both. The practical steps — identifying and valuing assets, settling debts, applying for the appropriate court orders, and ultimately distributing to beneficiaries — require careful sequencing and familiarity with the relevant procedures.

Insan Counsel works with families at each of these stages. Our practice covers initial estate consultations, the preparation and lodgement of probate and letters of administration applications, the full conduct of estate administration through to final distribution, and the longer-term advisory work of generational estate planning. We also advise on hibah, inter-vivos transfers, EPF nominations, and the drafting and review of wills under both civil and Islamic frameworks.

Our office in Kuala Lumpur serves families throughout the Klang Valley. We see clients by appointment, allowing adequate time for each matter. We do not impose time pressure on consultations, and we make it a practice to document every substantive discussion so that families have a clear written record of the advice they have received and the decisions they have made.
